Let Us Show You Around - Yixuan Pan, 2021
Conceptual artist, Yixuan Pan, created an interactive walking tour of Glenside in 2021. With the added challenge of Remote Learning, Pan curated an audio tour of Glenside that led participants from Glenside Train Station through memorable and important parts of town ending at the castle at Arcadia University. Each stop on the walking tour is distinguished by a QR code accessible with a smartphone. Stops along the route include Glenside Fire Station, Glenside Free Public Library, Michael’s Diner, and the Oldest Chestnut tree in Glenside.

Students involved in the class interviewed members of the community to include in the tour and recorded sections themselves. The entire tour can be here: https://www.arcadiapublicart.com/glenside-walking-tour.html.

The Arcadia-Glenside Community Railway - Kelly Cave, 2021

The Arcadia-Glenside Community Railway is a functional sculpture that celebrates the connections between Arcadia University and the Glenside community. Led by artist Kelly Cave, this artwork was created as the third installment of Arcadia Public Art.

The artwork is functional and acts as a seating area or amphitheater. When designing, the team of Arcadia student apprentices envisioned creating a place where residents could enjoy sitting and reading, and where the community could host storytime for kids and performances. Using SEPTA’s 1970s “Gulf Oil” paint scheme, the design of the artwork is inspired by the Route 6 trolley line that once traveled up Keswick Avenue. This was once a popular trolley line that would take civilians to the Willow Grove Amusement Park. Using the trolley as a source of inspiration connects the artwork with the history of the site and hopes to inspire more connections between the Glenside and Arcadia communities for years to come.

Glenside Underpass - David Guinn, 2018-2019
David Guinn, mural artist from Philadelphia and co-coordinator of the Arcadia Public Art, was our first resident artist. His work spans both sides of the Glenside train station underpass. This colorful mural lights up at night, brightening up the underpass with neon lights. This project spanned two years with two cohorts of students participating in the creation of the project.
